Medicare Rebates

Medicare offer rebates for clients who are referred by a GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician under a Mental Health Care Plan. Medicare offer 10 individual sessions per calendar year (January to December) and up to 10 group therapy sessions, where appropriate. After six sessions you will need to see your GP again to evaluate whether the additional four sessions are required.

Medicare offers rebates for Australian citizens who visit their Psychologist. You do need to first visit your General Practitioner (GP) and explain your mental health concerns and obtain a referral. It is polite to book a longer consultation with your GP so that they have adequate time to develop a care plan with you. Your GP will give you a referral called a “Mental Health Care Plan”, along with a letter of referral, which entitles you to Medicare Rebates.

Please bring these two documents to your first consultation at Nurturing Minds and Hearts. You are entitled up to 10 sessions in a calendar year (January to December).

Private Health Insurance

Most private health insurers offer rebates on psychological services, which will vary based on your level of cover. Unfortunately you will not be able to claim the service fee at the time of the appointment, and will need to process this fee directly through your insurer.

NB: Please note you cannot use your private health insurance to top up the Medicare rebates for these services. You will need to decide if you will use Medicare or your private health cover to pay for psychological services.

Cancellation Policy

As we have a waiting list our appointments are valuable. If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please do so 24 hours prior to your appointment to avoid paying the full fee. This will enable us to provide the appointment to other clients in need.
